MICROWAVE OVENS Top
  • Keep a peel of lemon in a bowl of water inside your microwave oven and warm for one minute to remove the smell of cooked food.
  • Cleaning the insides of the microwave may not be easy. Try to rub the inner surface with some moist baking soda. The dirt and grease will come off easily. Wipe dry with a clean towel.
  • Never use a metal container or a foil or even a steel spoon inside a microwave oven. This will cause a sparking inside the oven, which can damage the body and the door of the microwave.
  • You can use glass, ceramic or certain plastics inside your microwave. However, do not use Melamine plates and vessels as this can get damaged over a period of time.
  • Do not cook eggs in the shell, as they will burst.
  • Puncture egg yolks, potatoes, tomatoes and chicken liver before cooking.
  • Never operate your oven empty.
  • Never use metal pans or dishes with metal handles in the microwave.

BLENDERS Top
  • Cleaning a blender jar after use is not so easy. After pouring out the blended material fill the jar to one-third its capacity with water. Use the pulse or inching function for five seconds. You will find that the jar has been washed clean even under the blades. If the material is very sticky then you can even use soap water instead of plain water.
  • The blenders have an overload protection switch. This is to prevent burning of the motor when the blender is loaded above its rated capacity or kept switched on for a longer time. In such a case the circuit breaker switches off the motor. Press the reset switch which is on the top in case of model NB895 and which is at the bottom in case of models like NB894 and NB900 to reset the unit. You can start the unit after waiting for some time to cool the motor and by removing some of the material inside to reduce the load in the jar.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Top
  1. STEAM IRONS:

    Q) My steam iron drips when it is not in use. Is it a defect?
    A) In a steam iron the water from the water tanks slowly drips to the sole plate where it is converted to steam which then comes out through the holes on the plate to the cloth which is being ironed. When the iron is kept vertically the water does not come out of the water tank. However if the iron is kept horizontally and if the power is off or if the iron is on very low temperature setting then water can seep out. Always keep the iron vertically or keep it on the dry mode to prevent water from dripping out.

    Q) What is the use of vertical steam function in steam irons?
    A) Light wrinkles on clothes can be removed while they are hung on cloth hangers by using the vertical steam function of the iron. This gives a jet of steam which removes the wrinkles. This is ideal for heavy clothes like suits and jackets.

  2. HOT PLATES:

    Q) I find that in the Hot Plates the power switches off after some time and continuous heat is not available for cooking. Why is this so?
    A) There are certain Hot Plates which have a thermostat control. This is meant to switch off the power when the Hot Plate achieves a specified temperature. While cooking for a long time on a Hot Plate one should always use a totally flat bottomed vessel and keep the thermostat control at the maximum level. In this case the unit will not switch off occasionally. If the vessel used has a curved bottom then only a small part of it touches the Hot Plate resulting in poor heat transfer to the vessel and in overheating of the Hot Plate. This can result in the power switch off.

  3. MULTIBAND RADIOS:

    Q) My multiband radio does not switch on when the ON/OFF switch is pressed. Why?
    A) There is a hold switch in most of the NIKAI Multiband Radios. This is to prevent the tuned station from being disturbed. Once the hold switch is put on the active position then the ON/OFF switch is disabled. In such a case press the Hold button and switch your unit on.

  4. MUSIC SYSTEM:

    Q) I find that one speaker of my music system does not work. Why is this so?
    A) In many units there is a balance control knob. This is to control the sound output from the left and right speakers. If by mistake, the knob is kept to one side then no sound will come from one of the speakers.

  5. TELEVISIONS:

    Q) I find that the colour and sound are not coming properly in my TV set?
    A) The Nikai TV is a multisystem TV which works on different colour and sound standards. Please check the colour and sound system in your country and set the TV to that system to get the best sound and colour from your set.

  6. VACUUM CLEANERS:

    Q) I find that the cleaning power of my Vacuum Cleaner comes down after using it for a few days. Why is this so?
    A) In a vacuum cleaner the suction is dependent on the power of the motor and the cleanliness of the dust bag and filter. If the dust bag is relatively full or if the filter pads are dusty then the efficiency of the unit comes down. In this case empty the dust bag, clean the filters and you will find that the power is back to the original level.

  7. COOKING RANGES:

    Q) What is a Flame Failure Device in a Cooking Range?
    A) In a cooking range with a gas oven such a device is usually fitted. In case the flame inside the oven gets put off during cooking the gas can leak out and become a fire hazard. The flame failure device senses the lowering of temperature inside the oven when the flame is put off and cuts off the gas supply to prevent gas leak and any subsequent danger.

  8. BLENDERS:

    Q) Can I use the Nikai blenders for heavy grinding of items like rice and pulses?
    A) There are heavy and light duty blenders in the NIKAI range. The models like NB895 and NB 899 are meant for blending and liquidizing. For heavy duty operations we have models like NB894 and NB900. These have heavier motors and are rated for longer operations which are necessary for grinding rice, pulses etc.

  9. MICROWAVE OVENS:

    Q) How is cooking done in a microwave oven?
    A) In a microwave oven, microwaves are produced by a device called the magnetron. These waves pass though materials like glass, ceramic, paper and plastic. The waves cause the water molecules inside the food to vibrate. This high speed vibration causes heat and cooks the food from within.

    Q) What is a child lock in a Microwave Oven?
    A) Some microwave ovens have digital controls. If a child presses some button by mistake it can switch the unit on. To prevent this a child lock can be used. The lock can be engaged by pressing two keys on the digital pad. Once this is engaged then all the other keys will not function till the lock is disengaged. This will prevent the oven from being operated by children accidentally.
